Under the terms of a strategic partnership, Silicon Graphics
sells and supports IRIX NetWorker, an enhanced version of
the NetWorker backup and restore software developed by
Legato Systems, Inc. SGI's IRIX NetWorker software has been
specifically optimized for SGI's multiprocessor servers and
powerful workstations.
To offer SGI customers greater convenience, Silicon Graphics
also resells Legato's ClientPaks, shrink-wrapped software
for client computers from other vendors (``non-SGI
clients''). Support for these non-SGI clients is available
directly from Legato. These currently include packages for a
variety of Unixr platforms, MS-DOS, Novell NetWarer, Windows
3.1, Windows 95r, Windows NTr, Apple Macintoshr and others.
Legato has thoroughly tested these client packages with the
NetWorker server software and verified complete
interoperability and data interchange with Legato's shrink-
wrapped client software.
The IRIX NetWorker client software allows SGI computers to
act as clients to other vendors' systems running Legato's
NetWorker server product.
To offer SGI customers a single vendor solution, Silicon
Graphics supports these client packages for other vendors'
computer systems using the following process. In the case of
support issues concerning Legato's ClientPaks ("non-SGI
clients"), customers should contact Legato directly.
1. Each Legato shrink-wrapped client software package
includes media with platform-specific client software.
Also included are complete installation instructions
and user documentation for the specific client types
(for example, Sun workstations). Refer to this
documentation for loading and operating the software.
2. SGI's support strategy for a non-SGI computer is to
first attempt to duplicate any problem on a comparable
SGI client workstation. This process requires that
you have at least one SGI workstation running IRIX
NetWorker client software at your facility. The SGI
client workstation must be connected to the same
network and serviced by the same IRIX NetWorker
server. In this way, SGI can make comparisons that
help isolate the problem quickly.
If the problem occurs on the SGI client when specific
tests are run, that problem is pursued first and is
compared with the problem on the non-SGI client. If

the problem does not occur between the SGI client and
the SGI server, but does occur between the non-SGI
client and the SGI server, then SGI refers you to
product specialists in Legato's support organization
for more client-specific troubleshooting.
3. If you are in North America and your system is under
warranty or you have a maintenance contract with
Silicon Graphics, contact the Technical Assistance
Center at +1 (800) 800-4SGI for IRIX NetWorker server
and client support. In international locations,
contact your SGI sales office, distributor, or other
support provider.
